UEC Sends High School Students to Idaho Youth Rally

Four high school students from Hermiston, Irrigon and Ione will represent Umatilla Electric at the annual Idaho Youth Rally July 10-15 in Caldwell.

 The energy and leadership camp at Caldwell  is  sponsored by the Idaho Consumer Utility Association. Because the students have an important say in the camp’s content, the week is packed with both fun activities and serious learning experiences.

 

Lesly Santoyo – Hermiston High School

Lesly is a leader for her church’s Vacation Bible School and a counselor for the elementary schools Outdoor School programs. She is active in her church’s programs and plays, Key Club member and on the Honor Roll for the last three years. She is the current DECA secretary and National Honor Society secretary. She is a member of the Generation College program for first generation college students and plays club and school volleyball. Lesly plans to study Pre-Law/Political Sciences and would like to have career as an immigration lawyer.

 

Taylor Davis – Irrigon High School

 Taylor is the ASB Assistant Treasurer for her school, member of the Captain’s Council, National Honor Society and Key Club. She is involved in the School Leadership Program and member of the Band. She is an active Varsity volleyball and basketball participant, where she has served as Team Captain, and was selected for the All Conference Team when they were District Champions in 2016. Taylor participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and plans to seek a bachelor’s degree in nursing before joining the Nurse Corps.

 

Sonia Medina – Ione High School

 Sonia is a member of the National Honor Society, Vice President of her FFA chapter, Varsity Track and Field athlete and ASB Vice President. She competes in FFA sponsored public speaking, interview and career development events. She is a participant in student government and has won the Reliable and Trustworthy awards as well as the Star Greenhand award for prestigious leadership skills. Sonia plans to seek a degree at Western Oregon University & OHSU for a career in forensic nursing.

 

Elias Ismael Arenas – Hermiston High School

 Elias is the returning Director for the 2017 Youth Tour. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been in DECA. His special interests include playing soccer, spending time with friends and playing the guitar. He is also an active member of his church youth group. He plans to attend BMCC to finish up his Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, while playing soccer for the Timberwolves.
