Irrigation / Agriculture Program

Umatilla Electric offers several rebates for installing variable frequency drives and replacing an existing pump with a new pump, thanks to new program offerings from Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).

Variable Frequency Drive

Existing Centrifugal Irrigation Pumps — For existing centrifugal pumps that have substantial variation in head pressure of more than 20%, UEC will incentivize the installation of a qualifying VFD on these pumps rated between 20 and 500 HP. All installations must meet the IEEE 519 standard for harmonics. Payment is $70 per rated horsepower of the pump motor.

New Irrigation Pumps

Centrifugal — For new centrifugal pumps that have a discharge pressure requirements variation of 20% or more, UEC will incentivize the installation of a qualifying VFD on these pumps rated between 20 and 500 HP. All installations must meet the IEEE 519 standard for harmonics. Payment is $70 per rated horsepower of the pump motor.

Turbine — For new turbine pumps that have substantial variation in flow rate of 20% or more or discharge pressure requirements of 10% variation or more, UEC will incentivize the installation of a qualifying VFD on these pumps rated between 20 and 500 HP. All installations must meet the IEEE 519 standard for harmonics. Payment is $100 per rated horsepower of the pump motor.

Whole Pump Upgrade

When upgrading to new centrifugal or turbine style pump for the purposes of distributing or transporting irrigation water for pumps ranging from 20 to 500 HP, UEC will incentivize the replacement of the existing centrifugal, turbine, or submersible turbine pump with a new (not previously used or rebuilt) centrifugal or turbine style pump. Payment is $70 per rated horsepower of the pump motor.

The Irrigation / Agricultural Program includes electrical energy used (1) by a farm or business of which the primary purpose is applying water for food production or vegetation growth (e.g., pumping and irrigation) and (2) by a ranch or business where the primary business is breeding or raising of domestic livestock, poultry, etc.

There are a wide variety of program options for irrigation customers of all sizes. By participating, you can save money, energy, and increase the bottom line.

Eligible irrigation program measures include (but are not limited to the following):

  • Irrigation Water / Pressure Management
    • Scientific Irrigation Scheduling
    • Nozzle, Regulator, and Gasket Replacement
    • Mainline Replacement
    • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Pressure Management
  • Wire to Water Efficiency
    • Pump Testing, Rebuilds, and Replacement – improve pump efficiency
    • Pump Station Redesign – match pumps to system requirements

Custom Project? Let’s Chat.

Some projects are more complex and require additional steps to determine energy savings and eligibility. These Custom Projects may require engineering review and energy consumption monitoring for verification of savings. UEC will review any proposed energy efficiency project for verifiable energy savings potential, and will work with the owners to evaluate and verify energy savings. Pre-approval for custom projects is required prior to ordering or purchasing qualifying equipment or service.

Rebates are calculated on a per kWh basis of the verified energy savings of the installed measures. UEC projects are capped at 50 percent of the project cost for qualifying measures.
