Message from Umatilla Electric Cooperative
It is our wish that UEC assist in developing leadership in our service territory by helping worthy scholarship recipients obtain a higher education. This scholarship program is designed to recognize and encourage the achievements of the members and their dependent children. We are proud to make this program available to the membership of UEC and we have high expectations for its success.
Academic Scholarship Program
The UEC Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of the members of UEC and/or their dependent children. This recognition will be in the form of scholarships to assist with their college education.
How can I apply?
To apply online, you must complete the state’s Office of Student Access & Completion (OSAC) scholarship application, available here. Applications must be completed by March 1 for the upcoming school year. The applicant is responsible for submitting all necessary information to apply for a scholarship. (OSAC’s designation for the UEC scholarship is “244 – Umatilla Electric Cooperative”)
How much is the scholarship?
UEC’s Scholarship Program will award a minimum of 14 scholarships in the amount of $3,000. A total of $42,000 in scholarships will be awarded each year. The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given.
Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?
- Applicant or applicant’s spouse or parents/legal guardians must be active members of UEC and be receiving service from UEC at their primary residence
- Graduates (including GED recipients and home-schooled graduates) of high schools in Morrow or Umatilla County
How are the recipients selected?
Awards are based on academic excellence, which includes the following criteria: SAT/ACT scores, grade-point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities and two one-page essays on your long -range goals and significant challenges or accomplishments. A UEC selection committee will screen applications. The decision of the committee is final.
What are the recipient’s obligations?
Except for the requirements outlined above and a request to attend the UEC Annual Meeting during the year of scholarship award, no obligations will be imposed upon the student as a scholarship award winner. Other than payment of the scholarship, no obligations or liability are assumed by UEC.
Electrical Engineering Scholarship Program
The UEC Electrical Engineering Scholarship Program is designed to encourage college students who have completed their freshman year to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering-Power Systems. The scholarship Program will award one $5,000 scholarship each year. The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college as a sophomore or above in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given. More details below:
Lineman College Scholarship
Umatilla Electric Cooperative is pleased to support individuals interested in the Line Construction trade by awarding a scholarship to an accredited Line College of the recipient’s’ choice. The line construction trade is a rewarding career with exceptional pay and benefits and Umatilla Electric’s desire is to develop a qualified pool of candidates for future positions in the electric utility industry. Umatilla Electric will award one $3,000 scholarship. Upon selection and official enrollment to an accredited Line College program, scholarship checks will be paid directly to the school.
