Cap & Trade Bill Fails to Pass Legislature
Oregon Democrats were unable to pass a plan to cap greenhouse gas emissions before the end of the legislative session on June 30.
Umatilla Electric had been working with the governor’s office, legislators and business leaders in an attempt to mitigate the impact of House Bill 2020 on its membership.
Those efforts hopefully will be a starting discussion point in future legislation.
We appreciate those who committed time and energy to express their opinions to our elected representatives and government staff as the session unfolded over several months.
Those included members of the Board of Directors at UEC and the boards and staffs of other Oregon electric cooperatives.
On a daily basis, our cooperative interests at the Legislature were represented by Alec Shebiel, UEC’s government affairs manager; Ashley Slater, vice president of government affairs and policy at our power supplier, PNGC; and Ted Case, executive director of the Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
More results from the Oregon Legislature will be published soon.
