Local Students Represent UEC in Washington, D.C. for 2025 Youth Tour
Two outstanding high school students represented Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) at the 2025 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. in June. Cate Doherty of Hermiston and Abrianna Lomeli of Boardman were selected to join more than 2,000 youth delegates from across the country for the once-in-a-lifetime leadership experience.
During the weeklong tour, Cate and Abrianna explored the nation’s capital, visited historic landmarks, met with members of Oregon’s congressional delegation, and built connections with fellow student leaders. As UEC’s official delegates, they proudly represented not just the cooperative, but the entire Northwest region.
Cate Doherty, a junior at Hermiston High School, held a 4.29 GPA and was deeply involved in academics, athletics, and leadership roles. She served as ASB President, Vice President of her school’s FFA chapter, and was a varsity athlete in both tennis and softball. Cate also served on the Hermiston Youth Advisory Board, volunteered with Special Olympic athletes, and was a 2024 Umatilla County Fair Court Princess.
Abrianna Lomeli, a junior at Riverside High School in Boardman, also brought an impressive resume. She served as President of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and FBLA chapter. A varsity athlete in volleyball and basketball, Abrianna maintained a 4.0 GPA and had already completed her Associate of Arts degree. She previously represented UEC at the 2024 Idaho Youth Rally and was selected as a 2024 Oregon Business Academy Intern.
While in D.C., the delegates participated in Youth Day, where they heard from national speakers, including NRECA leaders and inspiring alumni. They also took part in a national service project supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, helping promote early childhood literacy.
