Umatilla Electric Cooperative recently partnered with Umatilla County Fire District 1 to provide employees with on-site fire extinguisher training, reinforcing the cooperative’s commitment to safety both at work and in the community.

Kelly Shelton, deputy fire marshal with the district, led the training at both UEC’s headquarters facility and main street office. Using a simulator, Shelton created a controlled “fire” scenario where each employee had the opportunity to operate an extinguisher and practice the proper technique.

The cooperative’s safety team emphasized that while prevention is always the first goal, knowing how to respond quickly can make a critical difference. By partnering with local fire professionals, UEC ensures employees are prepared to protect themselves, their coworkers, and the facilities members rely on every day.
