October gives us an opportunity to pause, recognize the impact breast cancer has on individuals and families, and take meaningful action in our community.
Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States, aside from skin cancers. In 2026, the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 321,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, along with approximately 2,670 men. Overall, about 1 in 8 women will face an invasive breast cancer diagnosis during their lifetime.
Behind those numbers are people we know; friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. Early detection and advances in treatment have helped improve outcomes, but access to screening, care, and support remains an important part of the fight.
At UEC, our employees have made a difference year after year by turning awareness into action. Through fundraising and other activities, UEC staff have helped provide valuable support for breast cancer screening and treatment in our local community. The generosity shown by our employees has also inspired the UEC Board of Directors to contribute additional support to this important cause.
This October, we’re continuing that tradition. From wearing pink to taking part in special activities and fundraising efforts, UEC staff will come together to show our support for those affected by breast cancer and help strengthen access to care close to home.
Every contribution matters. Every conversation can raise awareness. And every act of support can help make a difference.
