How Umatilla Electric Cooperative advances rural vitality through leadership, local investment, and community support.
For more than 85 years, Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) has done more than deliver reliable power, it has invested in the people and places that make Northeast Oregon thrive. Founded to serve rural residents, UEC continues that mission today by
actively supporting economic development, local leadership, and long-term community prosperity.
UEC’s Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) was established to strengthen rural communities. The RLF provides flexible financing that helps local businesses grow, creates and retains jobs, supports access to healthcare and education, advances telecommunications, and improves public infrastructure. Since its creation in 2007, the RLF has invested nearly $3 million into local small businesses. This initiative has helped launch new ventures and support businesses in their efforts to expand. The program has contributed to the creation of more than 70 new jobs and has helped retain over 140 positions across the region.
These investments are felt directly in local communities. In 2025 alone, four businesses were benefitted by UEC’s RLF program: Industry Dance Company, the Irrigon Food Pod, Nic’s Corner Bistro, and Christianson Realty.
The RLF showcases UEC’s broader commitment to improving quality of life across its service territory. By pairing financial resources with community-focused leadership, UEC helps ensure rural communities have the tools they need to grow, adapt, and prosper.
Through programs like the Revolving Loan Fund, UEC continues to power opportunity, strengthening local economies while staying true to its cooperative purpose of serving members and communities alike.
