When National Travel Challenges Cancel NRECA Tour, UEC Acts to Award Scholarship to Winner
Gavin Doherty of Hermiston High School is UEC’s selection for the annual Washington, D.C. Youth Tour. Because the NRECA’s in-person Youth Tour this summer has been canceled because of the pandemic, our Board of Directors has authorized a $3,000 scholarship to Gavin in lieu of the trip.
Gavin lives in Hermiston is the son of Ben and Melissa Doherty. He has a 3.96 GPA and has been involved in sports, FFA and a range of clubs and community activities. He is herd manager on the family farm and owns a small herd of registered Hereford cattle.
He plans to study engineering in college and is seeking an appointment to one of the service academies or an ROTC scholarship.
