Hermiston Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter honored Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) on Tuesday, May 19 with the Distinguished Service Award, an award presented to organizations, agencies, businesses, and community groups that have made outstanding contributions to FFA and agricultural education. The recognition shows the strong partnership between the two organizations, as well as the shared commitment to supporting youth leadership, education, and community.

Over the years, the Hermiston FFA Chapter, praised UEC for being a strong supporter of its programs and students through a variety of partnerships and community initiatives. UEC has hosted the chapter’s Agricultural Issues team, supported student fundraisers, and partnered with the Advanced Plant Science class by providing students the opportunity to create floral centerpieces for UEC’s 89th Annual Meeting. More than 70 floral arrangements designed by students were displayed throughout the event, adding a welcoming and personal touch for members in attendance.

FFA is a national student organization dedicated to developing leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Through hands-on learning experiences, leadership development, and community involvement, FFA helps students build confidence, strengthen practical skills, and prepare for future careers. Programs like FFA also create lasting impacts in local communities by encouraging service, volunteerism, and civic engagement among young leaders.

Supporting organizations like FFA aligns closely with National Cooperative Principle #7: Concern for Community. As a cooperative, UEC believes in investing in programs that strengthen the communities it serves and create opportunities for future generations. By supporting local students and educational programs, UEC continues its commitment to building stronger communities throughout the region.

“We are grateful for the recognition from the Hermiston FFA Chapter and proud to support programs that provide meaningful opportunities for local students,” said Tami Sinor, public relations representative. “The dedication, professionalism, and creativity demonstrated by these students are inspiring, and we value the partnership we have built with local FFA chapters.”
