The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) are celebrating Professional Engineers Day on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.

UEC’s team of Professional Engineers plays an essential role in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electricity to homes and businesses throughout the community. Their expertise helps ensure that the electric system operates smoothly every day. Professional Engineers (PEs) achieve their credentials through extensive education, training, and testing. To earn a PE license, engineers must complete a four-year degree, gain several years of supervised experience, pass rigorous examinations, and maintain their professional skills through ongoing education and development.

The engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the electrical infrastructure that powers the region. They also plan new distribution systems and implement emerging technologies to improve reliability and service. Many team members contribute to statewide and national industry boards, helping the cooperative stay informed about new regulations and innovations.

By following industry standards, codes, and regulations, they help identify and prevent potential hazards while ensuring dependable electric service.

Although much of their work happens behind the scenes, their professionalism and dedication help make modern life possible by keeping the community connected and powered every day.
