Scott Hall is a third-generation utility professional whose family legacy in the power industry spans three generations. Both his grandfather and father dedicated their careers to the Bonneville Power Administration, and Hall has carried on this tradition by bringing decades of experience and expertise to the cooperative.

Hall’s career in the electrical field exceeds thirty years. He began as a lineman with a utility in Nebraska, working for two years to master the technical and physical demands of the trade. He then spent eight years as a lineman in southern California before moving to Richland, Wash., where he served for twelve years as both a lineman and part-time dispatcher.

In 2023, after more than twenty years in the field, Hall transitioned to a full-time role as a system operator at Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC). In this position, he oversees critical aspects of the cooperative’s operations, including record-keeping, outage tracking, system communications, and coordination with line crews. The role requires situational awareness, multitasking, and the ability to anticipate operational needs - skills Hall refined throughout his years in fieldwork.

Colleagues describe Hall as a dedicated and collaborative professional. According to Dusty Grogan, manager of system operations at UEC, “Hall is a valued member of the system operations group. Every day, he brings a collaborative approach to the room. Hall, like all the system operators, has helped develop this young department into what it is today.”

Hall’s extensive field experience gives him a unique advantage in his current role. His firsthand understanding of fieldwork hazards, logistics, and crew needs enables him to deliver timely information
that ensures the safety of both crews and members.

Hall values the supportive environment at UEC and the recognition he receives from his team and members. From decades working as a lineman to serving alongside the system operations team, his career exemplifies adaptability, commitment, and service. While the climb may look different today, whether on a utility pole or behind a control board, Hall continues to help keep the lights on - one switch at a time.
