Umatilla Electric Cooperative is excited to announce a new voting method for the upcoming 2026 election. This year, the cooperative is introducing a hybrid voting model that allows members to choose from mail-in ballots or online through a secure web portal.
UEC staff has been actively exploring secure options for introducing electronic voting. Survey and Ballot Systems, a third-party entity that specializes in conducting secure elections for cooperatives, credit unions, and various organizations nationwide, offered the perfect solution.
UEC has successfully worked with SBS in conducting previous elections. SBS will administer and manage the 2026 election. Their expertise in electronic voting systems will ensure a smooth process and safeguard election integrity.
SBS upholds the highest standards of election security, including 24/7 surveillance, ongoing vulnerability assessments, data encryption, and more, providing a secure and private voting experience that safeguards member data and upholds election integrity.
On March 25, UEC members who have an email address on file, will receive an email from SBS noreply@directvote.net detailing the members online voting options which will include the member’s election passcode and a unique link to a secure portal.
Ballots will be distributed beginning March 25 through the United States Postal Service mail (allow 3-7 days). Ballots must be received by April 16, at 11:59 p.m. to guarantee the vote is counted.
It is important to note that in cases where a member submits a ballot both electronically and by mail, the mail-in vote will be the counted vote.
The 2026 voting begins Wednesday, March 25, with a deadline to return electronic and mail-in ballots by Thursday, April 16, at 11:59 p.m.
Note: Members who plan to vote electronically should add noreply@directvote.net to their safe sender list. This will ensure they receive important election communications.
Please remember, it is crucial for members to keep their contact information up to date. If you are unsure of the mailing address or email you have on file, or would like to update it, visit one of UEC’s office locations or call 541-567-6414.
