What are the recipient’s obligations?

Except for the requirements outlined above and a request to attend the UEC Annual Meeting during the year of scholarship award, no obligations will be imposed upon the student as a scholarship award winner. Other than payment of the scholarship, no obligations or liability are assumed by UEC.

How are the recipients selected?

Awards are based on academic excellence, which includes the following criteria: Grade-point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities, and two one-page essays on your long-range goals and significant challenges or accomplishments. A UEC selection committee will screen applications. The decision of the committee is final.

Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?
  • Applicant or applicant’s spouse or parents/legal guardians must be active members of UEC and be receiving service from UEC at their primary residence.
  • Graduates (including GED recipients and home-schooled graduates) of high schools in Morrow or Umatilla County.
How much is the scholarship?

UEC’s Scholarship Program will award a minimum of 14 scholarships in the amount of $3,000. A total of $42,000 in scholarships will be awarded each year. The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given.

How can I apply?

To apply online, you must complete the state’s Office of Student Access & Completion (OSAC) scholarship application. Applications must be completed by the deadline listed in the flyer for the upcoming school year. The applicant is responsible for submitting all necessary information to apply for a scholarship. (OSAC’s designation for the UEC scholarship is “244 – Umatilla Electric Cooperative”)
