Youth Tour is Back!

The 2022 Washington D.C. Youth Tour is Scheduled for June 18 – 24, 2022! Completed applications are due to UEC offices by 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2022.

Entry Guidelines & Applications

The tour is open to qualified high school juniors attending school in Umatilla, Morrow, or Union Counties, whose parent or guardian is a current member of Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC). UEC will pay all of the expenses involved with the trip except for spending money that the finalist may want to take.

*Subject to change. If event is canceled or restricted, UEC will provide a scholarship in lieu of the trip. You are welcome to call Amy Callan at (541) 567-6414 for a current update before submitting an application. Applicants need to include a photo of themselves with their completed application for use in Ruralite magazine should they be the winning entrant.

Video/Essay Topics:

  • Tell us about yourself and what you are passionate about.
  • Describe your view of one of the major challenges facing our nation and what potential solution(s) you envision.

Please note: If you do a video, it should be about 60-90 seconds long. It will be judged on content rather than production values. Should you choose to do an essay, it should be between 300-400 words.

Submit your completed essay or video and picture using one of these options:

  • Drop off your completed materials in person at our Hermiston or Boardman office.

  • Send a link to a Google Doc or video file to the email address above or;
  • Complete the form below and upload your materials

Submissions will be judged by a committee chosen by Umatilla Electric. Semi-finalists may be requested to interview in person. Umatilla Electric will be selecting two finalists and two alternates. All applicants will be notified of selection status.

The selected students will represent Umatilla Electric Cooperative and will join other Oregon delegates for a trip to Washington, D.C. The NRECA Youth Tour will be held from June 18 – 24, 2022. The selected students agree that if selected, he/she will participate in activities that help promote the youth tour. You may also be asked to attend UEC’s Annual Meeting in April 2022 to report on the overall experience of the trip.
