Why Build a New Substation?
UEC is seeing extensive growth in the Boardman area and needed additional capacity to serve member needs. The temporary Tower Road Mobile Substation was a development that came to fruition during load analyses that identified a potential future reliability and capacity concern that could impact members if left unaddressed.
To proactively support future growth and maintain reliable service, UEC deployed a mobile substation in the west Boardman area. This temporary solution provides additional load-serving capability while plans are developed for a permanent substation solution.
UEC’s Commitment to Our Membership
Substations are critical links in the electric distribution system, containing utility circuit protection, voltage regulation, and equipment that steps down higher voltage to lower voltage. Before reaching homes, businesses or farms, power is routed through our transmission system to a substation, where it is changed to a lower voltage that can be managed, utilized and delivered to members.
