Location: Umatilla, OR
To support growth across the system, UEC built the Rockpile Switchyard on Powerline Road, south of Umatilla, which was completed in 2024. This rockpile transmission project was built to connect that switchyard and better support load growth across the system. In total, UEC completed nine miles of 230kV transmission and 9.5 miles of 115kV transmission, including the following segments: relocating the Umatilla-Westland 115kV line, reconductor of the Rockpile-Ordnance 230kV transmission line, and new build of the Ordnance-Cottonwood 230kV transmission line.

Why Add Transmission Capability?
In order to best serve our members with reliability, UEC needed to invest in additional transmission capabilities to move power from one side of our system to another, supporting redundancy and providing system operators with options to reconfigure in case of an outage.
